A turn for the worse

If you will recall, Casey had injured her back somehow in the spring of 2010.

Despite all odds, she managed to regain her mobility.

I noticed the other day that when she stood up her right back leg would shake.
The shaking got worse.
Then she was unable to put the foot down on the pads.
Instead she was trying to stand on the top of her foot, unable to bring it up.
Then her tail quit waging.
Now she is unable to walk.

We have went back to using the dog wheelchair.
When she is not in it she rarely gets out of her bed.
When she does, it breaks your heart.

The Vet in 2010 immediately suggested we have her put down.
Chyann pleaded for a few weeks to see if Casey could heal.

The Hubby rigged up a form of traction and we began to see improvement.

Then came the wheelchair  and somehow she was almost back to her old self.
Mobile with pretty good control of her bowels.

We've got a vet visit this next week.
She is no longer mobile and has no control of her bowels.

Not sure what we are going to do.
Chyann is older now and more realistic in her expectations.

Guess we'll see.
Makes me sad to think of her gone.
Quality of life will be the determining factor.
Don't you agree?

What a sweetie. That's so hard... It's a quality of life thing for me, but that never makes decisions any easier. Sounds like you really went the extra mile - your hubby's traction device is ingenious. She looks so bright and perky in that picture.

I haven't had any spam since I did the verification thing. I know it's a nuisance, but the spam was worse :( It's like mosquitoes once they find you!

Oh gosh I'm so sorry. You know we had our Maggie put down in 2011 and I miss her every day.

I know you're like we are here... every animal is part of your family, and you love them and it hurts so much to let one go. (((hugs))) to all of you. :(

I HATE word verification but I don't mind moderation. I've had to recently add moderation, too. Same reason.

That's so sad. It's such a hard decision. We've been in that position more than once.

I feel your pain for the spam. I couldn't figure out why I had so many readers from Russia. Till I opened my spam folder and lots and lots of Russian women want to have sex with me!!! Hence the robotic thingie on my blog.

I am SO sorry for you and your family...
Quality of life is No. 1 in my opinion. And granting our four legged kids freedom from their suffering is one of the hardest things we as humans have to do...

Lisa, I'm not a Russian woman and hell, *I* want to have sex with you!! I want to have it with everyone on the internet. That's why I keep getting all the 'vigara' spam. And Russian woman spam. And Nigerian millions scams. Except I know those ones are for real and I'm gonna be RICH very soon. Rich and sexy. Thanks to the internet!!
